After completing a BA Languages and Cultures, I embarked on a teaching journey in South Korea. Experiencing a positive inclusive classroom and school environment and with a keen interest in inclusive education and training, I returned to South Africa and obtained an Advanced Diploma in Teaching (2014) and a http://www.******.***. Honours in Educational Psychology cum laude (2015-2016). More recently, I passed my board exam and registered as a counsellor with the HPCSA. I take a holistic view of learning and development and view the emotional and social wellbeing of an individual learner as paramount to his or her success. I am skilled at providing therapy through the means of play and art to children, therapeutic interventions to adolescents and facilitating and mediating difficult family and social situations. As a learning support enthusiast, I am also focused on supporting learners with specific needs and barriers to learning by assessing their academic strengths and weaknesses (using scholastic assessments), tailoring lessons suited to their academic needs and facilitating SIAS and school-related support administration. It is important to me to work within a multi-disciplinary team as I hold on to that ancient proverb that states: “It takes a village to raise a child.” This is why a close contact with parents/caregivers, teachers, school-support and district-support staff and other relevant professionals are necessary in order to work out practical solutions for learners with various barriers during their school years.
