I would like to state that at the time I was employed by African Bank my colleagues were really great. Unfortunately the leadership was not. There was no real opportunities for career growth. At a stage there was a meeting or some sort of company do basically everyday, which hindered you as an employee in your daily tasks. When it came down to the performance review it was not taken into account all the time you were away from your desk - precious time you could have done so much. I could also mention that the staff at the time I was there was totally overworked and there was a serious shortage of staff.

AB (AfricanBank) has been very good to me for a long time. Unfortunately due to BEE and incompetent managers that could not distinguish between value and BEE I eventually were driven to resign. Upper management (I Feel) were so desperate for bigger and better profit that they discarded caution and bought Ellerines which was the beginning of the end. Also, the fact that they replaced the workers with the wannabee's that's not prepared to work and add the muscle which was required to make a change Very very very sad

I have spend 5 years at African bank and watched the company grow from a company collecting R50 million a month to current collections, I have experienced personal development by way of busary while beeing employed there, I would recomend it to anywone who has drive and passion about their business as you can definately build a good carear there. African Bank is currently experiencing difficulties, but I am sure that it will turn around and become sucessfull again.

The company had many novel ideas and commitments to improving the staff morale and efficiency.Unfortunately these were lost and/or completely diluted by the time it reached the intended beneficiary. I also found that there were groups of people who operated as a cartel and if you were not part of the group you were deliberately stifled. While the upper management levels meant well the same cannot be said of middle management and the way they interacted with their reportees, Just before the crisis hit the Bank, there was a definite change in the attitude and behavior of senior management

"poor management and no real growth"
Added 21 Apr 2015 by a current employee
I've been working there for 3 years building my step ladder and wanting to be valuable assets to a company.Unfortunately it didn't workout very well and I asked if there's something am I doing wrong but there answer I received was dat ,why can't I ask the director.I won't refer anyone there.I rather sit at home than to be in misery when I must come to work.Capitalism if you are poor don't dream to be financial free as long you are working there .

This is the worst company ever. They have no respect for their employees. Too much apartheid still exist within the company. Most of top positions are whites and indians. Its only in branches where most blacks are branch managers. They got rid of old staff with allegations that they manipulated the system to qualify the clients, which is highly impossible, everything is system generated and if client do not qualify there's nothing to do. All these allegations was a results of being fined by NCR. They didn't want to pay they employees for retrenchment hence they came with that strategy. All ex-african bank employees are now blacklisted by the company because they all had staff loans and failed to pay them since they are no longer working. Th company hired new staff and paying them less salary, n mostly they work on contract basis. It is the only bank paying its employees the lowest salary. Honestly, this bank is finish. Its just that evryone is desperate for work otherwise most would quite. No one is happy at all.

"If you can pay your employees better , you will never lose them "

I loved African Bank, I miss it everyday, I would love to go back and work for them, I never regret working for them, I gained unlimited experienced, I enjoyed a lot there, I had the best management ever!!! unfortunately the income was not enough at all, I was enjoying my work, I never stressed of going to work, all they wanted was their work to be done on time with no excuses. If they can start considering other people's qualifications that will be fair. Some people are working there earning the same Income that the school leavers are earning but they have Degrees and 3years National Diplomas

"Stressful work environment"

Working environment can be stressful with no training and high targets. Co-workers are helpful and you get awards for jobs well done. There is definite room to grow.

"Only caring for profit - not people centered"
Added 25 Jul 2013 by a current employee
A company with huge potential but unfortunately mainly focussed on sales and costs and often forget the people and their needs. They try and hide behind training of staff and better rates for the clients but regularly make decisions only to benefit the company. There is a narrow line between being legal and irresponsible and they often cross that line.
