Airports Company South Africa, ACSA, was formed in 1993 as a public company under the Companies Act of 1973. Although ACSA is majority owned by the South African Government, the Company is legally and financially autonomous under commercial law. The Company was formed to own and operate the nine principal South African airports. This includes the three main international gateways of O.R Tambo, Cape Town and King Shaka International Airports. They also extend their responsibilities to include the promotion of tourism, the facilitation of economic growth and job creation, and the protection of the environment. ACSA airports have won 20 achievement awards for passenger satisfaction, to date. This is because of the Airport Council International’s (ACI’s) Airport Service Quality Programme. Currently, 180 airports around the world take part in this programme. ACSA operates the following international airports: O.R Tambo International Airport, Cape Town International Airport, King Shaka International Airport, Bram Fischer International Airport, Upington International Airport, Port Elizabeth International Airport, Sáo Paulo-Guarulhos International Airport. They also operate the following National Airports: East London Airport, George Airport, Kimberley Airport. ACSA contributes greatly to job creation in South Africa. This is achieved through infrastructure investment and the partnerships they develop with the private sector.
