The inception of Consol occurred in 1946, when Anglovaal took control from Pretoria Glass Works. It established itself as Consolidated Glass Works Limited in 1946. It is the leading glass manufacturer in Africa, with customers spanning local and international territory. It benchmarks itself against international standards by providing quality glass products. Consol Glass’ Industrial Minerals division produces the raw materials (silica sand) to produce quality glass. The company has four factories that produce over 3 million units per day. They manufacture packaging for food, beverages, tableware, pharmaceutics and cosmetics. The company prides itself in producing first-rate packaging that is 100% recyclable, reusable and safe. It promotes the safety of glass through its Choose Health campaign- this campaign promotes glass as a packaging material that does not contaminate the product. "neglect of South african employment act"

Consol glass is the company with lot of potential as it is well known as biggest selling glass in afrika, but i'm very concerned about the way Consol management treats its employees as the former shopsteward and union representative, i'm very sad to say that" at Consol there's still more division of class and issues of discrimanation involve in their daily dealings of the bussines.To samarise this issue i was the shopstuward and the also a dedicated employee who work to better myself and the life of my family but i was dissmised at work for 1.failure to notify about my where abouts for a period of one day...an offence which doesn't qualify to dissmised any employee in South african employment act. Worse part my superious knew about this matter, so really its very much likely that at Consol soon or later is gona be one of the Campanies that contribute in killing the aspirations of people n our society more expecially the youth.I'm not bitter about what had happen to me but what worries me more is the fact that young white South africans don't experiance what more black south african men and women go through and such actions are done with the view of undermining the acts we have as the Country...it pains me today to know that i'm not working because someone else has decided to dissmissed me unfairly, a person who never thought of what my family is going through it pains me to know that as the young men i'm failing my children...i'm grateful for this opportunity because someone might take this message to save someone else.It is very difficult for us young men in our society to deal with people who will do anything in their power to settle scores, Consol as the manufacture of glass containers should invest more on management issues more expecially the issue of race which i found as the more challenging in Gauteng.Coming from the Eastern cape myself i never thought i will face so much hate a work place knowing the history of this land. I regret to even meet the union Ceppwawu, i sincerely regret joining them and willingly taken the psition of shopstuward, it was sad to see that certain unions are no longer interested in helping the people in work place. i just hope Consol as the bussines can strive to do things right just for the sake of helping our society we don't want to see massacre where people die for no reasons, I hope to find a solution in my matter againts Consol but still not sure because i'm still waiting for the Bargaining council to find solution even though this matter has been with them for the past two years, skills development was one of the issues neglected by the company, hope they improve as South africa really needs dedicated leaders to ensure we don't always see action of the past. thanks for the opportunity.
