Speaking from experience this company handles its staff in an unethical and racist manner. The retirement of the original owners was the start of this conduct in the Ladysmith office by Johan Matthee. When Joahan Matthee took over the Ladysmith office he made it quite clear by stating that he only wanted to employ white people rather than people of colour. He then began to treat the Indian and African employees (Black employees) so badly that two people of these ethic groups resigned. which is what Johan Matthee had been aiming at doing so he would save money. He then set out to fire the rest of the black employees by making only them sign agreements to not do private work and then falsely accusing them of conducting private work, fired them by paying the "chairperson" to conduct Kangaroo disciplinary hearing. evidence of this was later found on Johan Matthee's computer by other staff members. He managed to fire three people in this way, who had worked for the company in excess of 8 years each at that time . He then set out to fire the two Indian ladies who where left. These were the "star employees" of the lot. After a lot of effort, non of Johan's deceitful tactics worked to fire these who ladies because they were good at their jobs and very clued up about labour law. When all else failed the company then dismissed these two Indian ladies through a retrenchment process on a 'last in first out' basis. Needless to say that the one lady who worked for the company for 6 years and the other who worked for the company for 5 years where retrenched while the white people who where hired by Johan Matthee for less than 6 months at the time were not affected by this retrenchment process and still employed! SISS disgusting work ethics to say the least!

I fully agree with the previous review. Coote Clarkson Architects has a HIGH staff turnover. There is ALWAYS new people coming in and people are being fired on a regular basis. The employees receive poor treatment from their employers. As a 'regular' worker, you have no chance of climbing the corporate ladder. You're a sitting duck.

This company offers no chance of growth, professionally. The employers do not treat the staff in a humane way, nor are they understanding when staff have personal issues to sort out. They have a tendency of 'hiring and firing', using the disciplinary sanction processes as kangaroo hearings to cover themselves. They resort to deceptive tactics against their staff and handle their staff with mistrust and micromanagement. The company had less than ten employees in both branches, therefore in terms of wage increases, leave of the staff, sick leave and other work conditions. The staff are at the mercy of the employers who think of their staff not as people but as cheap labour. The Ladysmith branch is under new management and these are where all these problems began, after the retirement of the original owner. As I said there is no chance of growth in this company.
