Highveld Steel used to be rated amongst the best companies to work for in Witbank until Evraz took over. The company's finances took a sharp downward direction to a point that it hasn't made a profit for several years and now they treat employees just as numbers. They retrenched a lot of employees last year in 2012 not even using a fair or clear selection criteria. Managers just protected their favourite employees, friends and got rid of everyone else. There was also race issues whereby a certain department was left with only white employees so they have no respect for the country's labour laws, affirmative action doesn't feature at all at Evraz.
