More than 150 years ago on a farm called Welgegund, is where the Loubser family started farming. Traditionally, the area is a wheat growing area with milk being a natural offspring from the farming activities required in order to be a successful wheat producer. Currently, the 5th generation of the Loubser family is growing up on the farm. Previous activities on the farm included piggery, an Angus cattle beef section, wine farming and sheep farming. Current activities include wheat farming, wine farming and dairy farming. Dairy farming was always a small-scale operation until Mr Eduard Loubser Senior decided to upgrade this activity in the mid 1950’s. Milk used to be supplied to the larger dairy manufacturers who monopolized the industry with low prices to the produces and high prices to the consumer. As a result, the Loubser family was forced to either close their Dairy business, or identify ways to add value to Dairy. They chose to do the latter and today the business has well bred, healthy, strong herd of Friesland cows producing milk of outstanding quality under optimal conditions. One of South Africa’s leading magazines, The ‘Fair Lady Magazine’, voted their yogurts as the best. After this award, their yogurts won numerous other awards and write ups in other national and international upmarket magazines.

Working in a very competitive environment. Constantly looking over your shoulder, because of the fear of losing your job.
Best companies to work for in the Dairy sector.
