"Not for the serious job seeker"
Added 21 Aug 2013 by a current employee
IQ Business Group has been around for approximately 15 years, but although they advertise themselves as a global company, they really don't have much of a footprint outside South Africa. They used to have a small satellite office in Boston, but that is closing down since they mismanaged and lost their offshore contract with the USA branch of one of the largest employee benefits management companies in the world (this company is no 5 on the Fortune 500). Not the most brilliant way to do business internationally, I would say. They're currently still running a small contingent of staff in Australia, running and managing an employee benefits package. I would not recommend anybody who is serious about their career to work at IQ, because they tend to keep their staff closed off from the other areas of their business, therefore there is no real career growth opportunities in the company. Employees are expected to do work hard and play hard, but be happy with the mushroom treatment. People willing to spend their personal time getting wasted with top management, are the only ones getting anywhere in this company. So if you're a well functioning alcoholic, this company is definitely for you. IQ will promise you a permanent position after you have worked through your initial 3 month fixed term contract (they don't have probationary appointments). At the end of your initial fixed term contract, they will offer you a renewal of this contract, there will be no permanent position, unless you are willing to work for R20k or less per month. They abuse the Labour Law's regulations around fixed term contracts to make it easy to get rid of expensive employees that have been on renewed fixed term contracts for years, while IQ never had to supply all the normal trimmings that comes with permanent employees, e.g. medical, pension, etc. And then, one day, when they decide they just don't like your face anymore, they just inform you that they will not be renewal your contract again.
