Komatsu Ltd. is an international corporation founded in Japan in 1917 as Komatsu Iron Works. Since its inception the company has spread globally but its headquarters still remain in Tokyo, Japan. The company manufactures various heavy machinery including, but not limited to construction, mining, and military equipment, as well as industrial equipment like press machines, lasers and thermoelectric generators. The company is the world's second largest manufacturer of construction equipment and mining equipment after Caterpillar and they also make the largest bulldozer in the world; the D575. They have a dominating footprint in six of the seven continents and their Southern African offices are situated in Isando, Johannesburg, Gauteng. Komatsu Ltd is part of the Komatsu Group together with 182 other subsidiaries and affiliates. Komatsu Southern Africa (Pty) Ltd was established in 1997.
