Lauritz H Marthinusen, the founder of LH Marthinusen, arrived in Johannesburg South Africa in 1884. Upon arrival, he joined the Nourse Mine and saw an opportunity of winding electrical rotating machines locally. At the time, South Africa had no repair facility so the machines were being returned to Europe; the repair cycle could therefore often take as long as 18 months. Thus in 1913, LHM was born. In a relatively short time, the company grew rapidly and gained the reputation of a local facility that was competent in handling complex repairs. Since its inception, LHM has received the reputation of the leading repair shop. It is also known as the largest facility in the Southern Hemisphere. In 1982, Delta Electric purchased LHM. Since this purchase was made the company has grown rapidly, establishing branches in most of the major industrial centers in South Africa.
