"I worked for Liberty as a Financial Advisor"

What a company to work for ! I am still paying for policies, which had lapsed until today. I would not recommend this company to anyone. When I went for my interview, it was presented to me as the greatest company, which recognises and awards potential if it is seen. Well, what a shock I got when i joined. I must say I had a supportive manager. It is however, not a glamorous job to do as you do not earn a decent salary and the commission you make for doing business is not that pretty either. I would not go back to working for them even if I was paid to do so.

A company with good benefits, but management is another story. There is a lot of favouritism, lot of work duplication within departments. Too many senior managers without reporting staff.

"A fantastic company"
Added 14 Aug 2013 by a current employee
I worked at Liberty Life for most of my Career. I recently left and joined a smaller Company as I wanted to experience a different working culture. While Liberty Group has fantastic benefits and really take care of their staff, there are lots of politics and many people sitting on the gravy train. I was one of them. Working for a salary. Not being able to show my full potential because of politics like friends and family being promoted over you, HR being bought off by Management and doing their bidding. Ive heard of things that some people may deem illegal. lots of unfairness however if you want to earn a big salary and do the bare minimum, then Liberty is your choice of employer.

Best choice I ever made in choosing an employer.. Liberty has the best structure to groom new employees and a very good development programme for graduates.

"Manager of the year"
Added 18 Jul 2013 by a current employee
You don’t always hear good reviews about managers but I had the pleasure of meeting one like that. I was employed as a financial consultant recently but could not fully commit to my duties due to family responsibilities. It took about two months to admit that I could not multitask between the two. In all that time my manager never treated me like just another employee or disrespected me. He really showed sympathy and empathy and never questioned my motives. Ones I spoken to him about my situation he even said we should check on a later stage how my circumstances would be. He wished me best of luck and that was the end of it. Now I know 99.9% of all managers in the same situation would have treated it with impatiens and would not see it from another point of view. So to this individual I can only take my hat off and really say that companies need managers like this. He is in the true sense a remarkable manager and he deserves to be a manager. If there were a manager of the year competition he should have it. Petrus van Staden is not just a great leader, but a great human being.

"Read your employment contract"
Added 14 Jun 2013 by a current employee
I was a financial advisor for just under 1 year and signed some business for them while I was there. A word of caution to anyone who is planning or may be tempted out of desperation to take up a role of non salaried financial advisor, READ YOU EMPLOYMENT CONTRACT and make sure you understand it. Three years later I'm still paying back monies from clients I've signed up have lapsed their policies. I will NEVER do business with or encourage anyone to do business with liberty .This is not an ideal place to be employed unless you have another form of income to fall back on.

"Liberty Agency"
Added 13 Jun 2013 by a current employee
The product offerring of the company is cutting edge and probably no.1 in the industry as an overall service provider. In the administration and management space it is competitive and very favourable working conditions. In the Agency space for financial planning positions with its packages ,is where I would excercise caution as the job aspect and remuneration is positioned incorrectly and could be borderline misleading with too much pressure and incredibly high staff turnover. The Financial services agency space is not for everyone and would be suited only for individuals who are mentally tough, analytically minded, have the gift of the "gab" and would be able to sustain a high risk, high pressured situation as the staff turnover figures every 12 months are around 90%. I have been with agency for 4 years and would recommend it to young people as the perfect stepping stone and place to learn the pro's and conns of financial services and South African markets. Bear in mind that its a sales and target driven industry with high operating costs to bear, high self discipline is an absolute must, ability to network and prospect for new business is a must and a constant challenge. There is a 1 in 10 success rate and stress levels are high with long working hours and attention to detail whilist doing your administration is key.
Best companies to work for in the Financial services sector.
