Netcare is a South African health care company which is the largest provider of private healthcare in both South Africa and the UK. Netcare was founded in 1994 and established in 1996 with six hospitals when it was listed on the JSE Limited. Several other small and independent hospital groups were acquired since 1996, notably Clinic Holdings and Excel Medical Holdings. Netcare then expanded into the UK in 2001 when it went on to acquire a controlling stake in General Healthcare Group, the UK's largest private hospital group, in 2006. Netcare also provides services to the National Health Service via its subsidiary Netcare UK. During fiscal 2001 Netcare acquired Medicross and Medicross later acquired Prime Cure Holdings in January 2006 which is a provider of primary care services for the emerging market, now with clinics. Medicross and Prime Cure form Netcare’s Primary Care division with a total network of 3 300 registered doctors at the time. While operating the largest private hospital group, primary care network and emergency service in South Africa, Netcare provides its staff members with the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of others. With its caring environment that not only provides significant support to the staff members that work there, but also the comfort and consideration of its patients and their families, the group has certainly set itself apart as a centre of excellence.

"Nursing coverage in ICU"
Added 12 May 2015 by a current employee
I observed that nurse care workers (not registered nurses) were used in ICU's. Due to their limited training they were in a dangerous positions - cancelling alarms and not recognizing emergency symptoms with patients. The amount of registered nurses were then cut to a minimum and the shift charge nurse was mostly ICU trained. I stopped moonlighting at for Netcare as they put me in shift charge of such an ICU while also having to be solely responsible for the most critical patient in the unit. The situations are very dangerous for the patients and ICU's are still becoming bigger by the day with less qualified nurses being trained / available.

"I would not work for Netcare "
Added 05 May 2015 by a current employee
I worked for Netcare for only 12months and in the 2nd month of my employment I was already looking for a new job mainly because of the culture within the company. There was no recognition for employees performance and management act as dictators as oppossed to leaders.

Working for netcare was the biggest mistake of my career. The culture is backwards & raciat. Bullying tactics and lack of respect of people outside the normal white Afrikaans is normal. I have nothing positive to about Netcare.

Having worked for this company for Two years i can honestly say that Customers comes first and nurses last. The customer is always right even if they are swearing at you treatening you or telling you that they pay your salary on a daily basis.i never felt that management protected us or where willing to dtand up gor the right of the nurses.Mostly my week considted of half the patient that i came into contact with being rude and abusive or colleaugues being aggressive bullies. It is run like a business and has left no room for caring and compassion.

"the best company to work for"
Added 05 May 2015 by a current employee
I worked for netcare mulbarton hospital pharmacy for almost 7 yrs loved every second of my stay there, loved my job, loved the team I worked with and most importantly I really loved our clients for we had the best relationship. Doctors, nurses, company representatives and unit managers we all had this family bond kind of thing going on yes behind closed doors we had our differences like any other family, however it was never in front of our customers/clients and we always managed to put them first. Yes renumeration was the issue when I was there and few other things could be changed but over and above that it is the best company to work for

"Unethical behaviour from Senior Management"
Added 05 May 2015 by a current employee
Netcare values of care, passion, dignity, honesty and participation forms an integral part of the company's operations, however these values are not displayed when dealing staff. Staff are being managed with personal feelings which in turn puts the public at risk.e.g matter of concern. Manager running the emergency call centre (911) never passed her BAA course and never had a matric but it is brushed under the carpet yet the very same manager is in unable to log a call competently. It is concerning is this environment is dealing with life thtreatening emergencies. Staff are threatened and being told that they don't care about HR policies and there is no proper career development opportunities as staff are being promoted by being buddies with the directors.

"It gets So Far"
Added 30 Jul 2013 by a current employee
Netcare is a brilliant company. So much so, that I grabbed every opportunity and grew within the company over a short space of time. I learnt HR, IT, Finance, General Management and so much more. Although, it seems that the values only reach a certain stage in the hierarchical pyramid scheme, which is sad, but otherwise I give this employer two thumbs up and hope they grow from strength to strength.

"Netcare really cares !!!"
Added 22 Jul 2013 by a current employee
I have not worked for a more caring and professional company. Not only is the company professional, but their staff as well. They seem to have their standards well worked out as they seem to only employ professional and honest people that really have a passion for what they do. Working for Netcare has been a true bliss. It is the staff that makes it so blissful, their caring attitude and the willingness to go the extra mile, is to be envied. I am totally honoured and grateful for being part of such a caring family as Netcare is just that, they are family, not just a company.
