He started out with no clients and only two staff members. Today, the company is the eighth largest advertising network in the world with 450 offices across 169 cities. Ogilvy’s origins in South Africa lie with a small hot spot in Cape Town, founded by Bob Rightford, Brian Searle-Tripp and Roger Makin in 1976. They merged with Ogilvy and Mather in 1980 to become Ogilvy & Mather RS-TM. They dominated the local creative scene during the first decade. Over the next twenty years they were recognized as brand-focused agency that acted with integrity. Today, Ogilvy & Mather still see themselves as a company that does more than ads, staying true to David’s vision. Although they are leaders in the industry focused on building and transforming brands, they still maintain their humility.
