Sanlam was established in 1918 as a life insurance company and are now considered to be leaders in the financial service groups. It is a share-holder owned company and has been listed on the JSE limited and Namibian stock exchange in 1998. They provide financial solutions to individuals and institutions these solutions include the following; individual, group and short-term insurance, personal financial services such as estate planning, trusts, home and personal loans, savings and linked products, investment, asset management, property asset management, stockbroking, risk management and capital market activities. Their businesses are being conducted through a corporate head and four business groups. Whereby the corporate side are involved in strategic direction, financial and risk management, marketing and communications, Group human resources and corporate social investment (CSI) and the four business groups are Sanlam Personal Finance, Sanlam Investments, Sanlam Emerging Markets and Santam. I started at Sanlam right after finishing high school and haven't left since. Sanlam is a place with lots of opportunity, but it is not handed to you on a silver platter. This company is so big, you just need to proof yourself, keep looking for opportunities and apply for internal positions if you want to get ahead. I have been developed on a personal and strategic level. Sanlam personel in general are very helpful and it really feels like a family. Work/life balance is taken seriously and the 'mall' in the building really just makes it so convenient to work for Sanlam. I feel that I am treated and remunerated fairly and really have no reason to want to work anywhere else. Sanlam has transformed so much over the number of years I have been working here - I really believe that this is a company that welcomes and values all. I am hoping to retire at Sanlam.

I have been employed at Sanlam for 12 years and I started out as a mail router as a temp. I became permanent 4 months later in August 2001 and have been developed and groomed for the business. I am proud to have blue blood in my veins. Today I am Training Consultant to all our advisors and Brokers. Sanlam is still busy developing me for even more greater things. My plan is to retire with the company. I just completed Wealth Management 2 (RFP 2) and next year I will be done with Wealth Management 3 (RFP 3). I had to leave the company in 1998 due to unforseen circumstances and at the time my manager called me in and said that they wanted to make me permanent but SANMED / Sanlam Health had to close their doors and that they could not make me permanent. Then 2 years later where I was employed at ERPH where I was retrenched once again and then I did temp jobs until something indefinately opened up at Sanlam. This is where I find myself today and I am would advise any person who gets a job @ sanlam to keep what you have. They take good care of you.
