Ian Fuhr, the founder of Sorbet, originally started the business with the idea that it could become predominant brand catering for the needs and wants of South African women. The salons and nail bars became the first phase of the brand building process. On the 1st of August, 2005, the Sorbet brand was officially launched with 5 salons. The Sorbet Society loyalty program was launched in October in October 2006 and has become the backbone of backbone of the business (currently approaching 100 000 members). Sorbet has created the traditional Vision and Value statement; rather they have developed what is called the Higher Purpose. The Higher Purpose helps their employees to understand, not only how to serve the needs of their clients but also why it is so important. The Statement has become the driving force behind Sorbet’s business philosophy.
