It was an absolute pleasure working for this company. It is because of this company that I got to see the world. They treat all their employees with respect, regardless of race, gender or sexuality. The only downside is that you don’t see your family a lot because you spend a lot of time travelling and the salary is not the best.

"COMPANIES NOT TO RESIGN FROM"

South African Airways is a company I regret having resigned from. SAA has opportunities, and its employment well-being and benefits policy makes it a company to consider having long-term employment plans with. It is a national carrier. It is a brand on its own. It covers more routes than any other national carrier. It is diverse, and has community uplifting programmes.

Looking back, the ± four & a half years at SAA were surely the best of all my working years. At the time, I left because of illness in the family. I would go back anyday!

SAA lost its ability to treat its staff as individuals, on top of that there is a BIG divide between management and the work force. Management have a god complex, with the attitude of 'if you don't like it leave'. Suport structure between management and staff is non existent. SAA lost its glamour as a world class airline to a government sponsored organisation, and its clearly visible in the staff's attitudes towards its clients.

"Airline Business is no joke"

To make a million with an airline, you have to start with a 100 million. This company isn't bad to work for but it is an ever present concern that the people in power do not always know what is best for the company. Budget cuts are implemented on the wrong things resulting in sub-par customer service. And personnel development should really be more pertinent. But the company has lots of very loyal employees that has been there for many years. It shows that they are doing something right.

Working for SAA can be stressful at times, especially dealing with difficult customers, but management is always supportive and always feeling appreciated. Salary is great with benefits: medical, pension. The hardest part is having patience with difficult customers especially with non-English-speaking customers. Shifts are ever-changing: one week just mornings, next week just afternoons. It has a great working environment as we all work well together and we meet all kinds of people. You just have to be able to work with people from different cultures.
Best companies to work for in the Airlines / Aviation sector.
