Stellenbosch University (SU) is situated in the town of Stellenbosch, South Africa. As a public research university, it designed and manufactured South Africa’s first microsatellite (SUNSAT) which launched in 1999.The university is a predominantly Afrikaans medium university, especially at undergraduate and course level. Students if the university are nicknamed ‘Maties’ which is a word likely to come from the Afrikaans colloquialism maat (meaning ‘buddy’ or ‘mate’).SU consists of about 150 departments divided amongst 10 faculties. Faculties situated on the main campus are: Arts and Social Sciences; Science; Education; AgriSciences; Law; Theology; Economic and Management Sciences; Engineering. Faculties and schools that are not situated on the main campus are: Military Sciences (situated in Saldanha Bay); Health Sciences (situated in Tygerberg); University of Stellenbosch Business School (situated in Bellville).Stellenbosch university also has 40 research (and other) institutions.

The university is trying very hard to attract non-white students and staff. But the racism reigns supreme there.

While I commend US for being very advanced with technology, I have to say that, while I was there, I experienced my first feelings of insecurity due to racism. People of colour are treated with a sort of disdain.
