"Hylton Ross exclusive tours"
Added 05 Sep 2013 by a current employee
I use to work at Hylton Ross and I'm very unhappy about how the Manager at the Pretoria Branch is treating his co-workers. I did a a tour for them as a coach driver about a year ago and I'm still waiting for my salary. If I don't want to drive coaches for them, the manager does not want to give me work as a driver/guide like he use to. If I asked him to give me a contract so I can make sure I get my salary, then he said that he don't give out any contracts to the freelance guides or drivers. He use to give me work for a year, but then stopped giving me work. Whenever I asked to have a meeting with him and his superior he doesn't rock up. Hylton Ross is a great company, but they must do something about the management here in Pretoria.

"Hylton Ross JHB Branch"
Added 05 Sep 2013 by a current employee
My complaint is not about Thompsons Travel, but about Hylton Ross Exclusive Tours. I work for Hylton Ross as a freelance driver Guide for nearly a year. The one time the Manager at the JHB branch asked if I will do drivers work on a one-off for 12 days down to Cape Town via Swaziland. So me, as a freelancer, took the job and tied myself for those 12 days. My first day on the way to Mpumalanga, I battled to change gears on that coach and I phoned the manager and told him about the gears and that I won't be able to go over the mountains in Swaziland with that bus. When he phoned me the evening, he said he is going to replace me and the bus so I asked him just to replace the bus, because I got a code 14 license and I can drive any bus. His words to me is that he'd put one of his permanent drivers on that tour, so I asked him why did he ask me in the first place to do the tour for him? So he paid me only for 2 days and he knew I was at home. Why didn't he give me pay for the rest of the ten days? After that tour I didn't get any money from him and he asked me again if I will drive a big bus for him and when I said no, he was very angry so I told him I will drive the bus, but I need a contract. If something happened to the bus, he must still pay me so he said he can't give me a contract. Then I told him 'sorry I can't help you', otherwise I'd be tying myself up with him. Thereafter, he didn't make use of me any more. They still owe me money for ten days that I worked for them. From that day on the Manager didn't make use of my services any more so in my eyes it's unlawful dismissal. I did nothing wrong, I didn't even get any written warning from him. Because of him, I'm sitting in a troubled financial situation. He made use of me before that incident every day to do local driver/Guide work for Hylton Ross.
Best companies to work for in the Leisure, travel & tourism sector.
