Toyota has been around since 1961 and today they are very much part of the South African culture. They are also part of a bigger, global picture; one based on a holistic management style that is as much about contributing to the world as it is about selling and making cars. The core values of Toyota include: Open and honest communication; Customer satisfaction; Social responsiveness; Quality in everything they do; Respect for people and property; Recognition and reward for effort; Teamwork; Fair and equal opportunities. Toyota wants their team members to be competent, motivated and committed to the objective of the company. The company therefore makes every effort to provide opportunities for growth, while ensuring that people are treated fairly and with respect. Toyota also strives to be a responsible corporate citizen. They see close relationships with communities as essential contributors top mutual prosperity.

My respect and appreciation is forwarded to Toyota Sandton. My only gripe is the fact that as a committed employee of Toyota in the 80's, I reported misconduct to management and resigned because of pressure within the environment. I truly felt that my actions were in the company's interest. Efforts to seek employment back at Toyota are futile, should I have allowed theft and misconduct to retain my position? To this day I believe the truth was the only way.

This was my first official employer and to say the least it was a life changing experience and a great learning opportunity but honestlty as a first employer this is not the best place to start, you are expected to perform at the level of fully trained and experienced person. In terms of guidance there is very little, not so much as a formal plan for your training. You are literally thrown in the deep end. Socially the company is purely henry ford all about output social activities do not exist and interaction during work hours is frowned upon, you are expected to be consistently working. I have left the company and would only return if I wanted no comfort or freedom of expression in my job and relatively poor pay compared to similar positions in the industry, but only driven by the fact that I want to be working for a #9 in the top 500 companies list than i would stay with them, if only to elevate my status and work experience to leave for a better employer. You can work for them but it is not easy, very demanding and quite belittleling since they is such a great emphasis on people's positions and the structure of the hiearchy is so wide and high you feel as though you cannot make it to the top and you cant because after the company became a whole owned subsidiary of the TMC (Toyota Motor Corporation) based in Japan, more and more senior positions that open up are being occupied by expats.

Toyota has a wide range of vehicles available to suit the needs of all individuals. Toyota has the best selling commercial range for those seeking both quality and durability on all SA road conditions. The product's reliability and cost effectiveness regarding maintenance has been proven. It is a well engineered dependable product without faults when arriving from the factory and once pre-delivery service has been done. Toyota SA gives excellent customer service back up if needed and are extremely helpful and prompt in assisting with all queries. Training is comprehensive and of the best training I have had the privilege to do. It is a brand that holds excellent resale value and a pleasure to sell and work in such a professional environment.

I have never been employed by Toyota but I do know friends and family that are working for Toyota. The company offers its employers very good perks and keeps them educated. The products or vehicles are long lasting and of good quality. The service and warranty plans sold are of good quality. The brand is one of South Africa's oldest brands and to date still continue with excellence!

Toyota SA is a World Class company, producing excellent products. Toyota is dedicated to growing all their employees, using all the techniques that have made most Japanese companies so successful over the years. Their involvement with the training and development of everyone connected in the Toyota chain, including all suppliers, is impressive. They demand a high level of work ethics from whomever they deal with, internally and externally.

"Great environment to grow your skills"
Added 03 Sep 2013 by a current employee
Toyota SA puts a lot of emphasis on team building, having weekends away, training and team development strategies. It is a great environment in which you can grow your skills. The management is always supportive and the co-workers become your second family. Sometimes it can be high-risk because of budget constraints and working longer shifts (12-24 hours straight) when there are major breakdowns.

Toyota is a good company to work for. They offer study assistance to employees, to advance their careers but when it comes to employment equity act, Toyota is failing in that area. Only whites are considered for higher positions. Men are still dominating in superior positions. It gets frustrating not to grow - and staying in the same position for years. The Union leadership there is good for nothing, they are failing to challenge unfair labour practices.

"Working for Toyota..."
Added 25 Jul 2013 by a current employee
Working for Toyota is not as bad as some people make it out to be. We are an independent dealership, so that surely changes the situation. Toyota is the first big company that I work for, have been here for almost 4 years. Relationships inside the business is not bad at all. Only thing that most of us can complain about is our salaries, but hey doesn't everyone want to earn a bigger salary? I really hope to be employed by Toyota for years still to come.

They have high staff turnover because of their management style. E.g. they don't expect you to leave exactly at knock off time because they believe that doesn't show commitment, they sometimes set meetings during tea time/ lunch break, which is one thing I really disliked. If you press your phone, you are in damn big trouble even though we have family emergencies. Senior managers don't take you serious if you are, say, an assistant manager. As per my experience, I don't think they are able to keep their employees happy. They will NEVER be voted as the best employer. I expect high staff turnover to get worse!
Best companies to work for in the Automotive sector.
