"disregard for HSE (health safety and environment)"
Added 31 Jul 2013 by a current employee
I've worked for TCP (Transnet Capital Projects), which is another division under the the Transnet umbrella. From what I had personally experienced within in the TCP division, I can, with conviction say that there is a total disregard for compliance with HSE regulations, standards or company policy. The CM (contracts manager) for whom I had worked, never liked following procedure or offering support when it came to do doing things the right or safe way and pressurised the workers in an intimidating manner to a point that they were afraid to raise any HSE concerns they came across. Without going into too much detail, (as this would require an enormous amount of typing and time). Transnet may have all their ducks in a row when it comes to documentation regarding their concern for the health and safety of its employees, others affected by the work being done and the environment, but there is a huge contrast between what they say and what they actually do. Do give some perspective I'd like to mention this example. Example: it was the annual leave period, a qouta was submitted for removal of an asbestos sheet roof and the CM was informed about the risks and hazards involved and advised on the correct procedure that was to be followed. The CM did not like the idea and arranged/intimidated a small group of employees and instructed them to carry out the task without any proper PPE (Personal Protective Equipment). Luckily for the workers, AIA (authorise inspection authiroty) got into loads of trouble.
