Tubatse Chrome Minerals (Pty) Ltd

Tubatse Chrome Minerals is a joint venture between Sinosteel Corporation and Samancor Chrome (Pty) Ltd- each having a 50% share in the venture. Tubatse Chrome (Pty) Ltd, Tubatse Chrome Mineral (Pty) Ltd’s 100% subsidiary company, is constituted by Tubatse Ferrochrome Plant and Tweefontein Chrome Mine. With five furnaces (three having an installed capacity of 30 MVA and the other two 37 MVA), the Tubatse Ferrochrome has an annual production capacity of 300 000mt. Their core business is the production of charge chrome. Tweefontein Chrome Mine’s core business is the production of metallurgic, chemical and foundry chrome ores. It has An annual salable chrome ore mining capacity of 1 million tons with ore reserve in excess of 76 million tons. The mine and smelter has the economic advantage of being close to the extensive chrome ore deposits; it is located about 300 kilometres northeast of Johannesburg.
