Umfolozi Sugar Mill

‘We are committed to achieving the USM vision by providing a class service.’ Umfolozi Sugar Mills envisions being the most admired sugar cane processor in South Africa. USM produces approximately 135 000 tons of sugar per annum (under ‘normal’ conditions). The mill is potentially capable of crushing 1 400 000 tons of cane and they have every intention of growing the cane supply accordingly. Almost all the bulk raw produced in 2009/2010 was exported. In July 2010, new 25 kg/50kg and 1 ton bagging plants were commissioned; this helped diversify USM’s market exposure, initially focused on the industrial and wholesale markets. USM intends on participating in renewable energy markets, particularly in the production of renewable electricity for export onto the national grid. The USM Management team is working alongside other stakeholders to help realize these prospects.
