"Unilever South Africa great company to work for"
Added 05 May 2015 by a current employee
Unilever South africa is the company where one can get the best training and best exposure to world class organization or operations. Unilever is like home where you have parents that care for you. if you are a person that want to hide behind parents Unilver is good place to hide and be cared for however you remain cared for and natured forever; personnal growth is limited as you remain a child forever. if you want career growth and be on you own. if you want to be on the edge, stand and fight for your dreams unilever is not the place for your. personnal i spent 5years (from 1999 - 2005) in one position. all my colleagues that i left at unilever are still holding same positions that I left them at. having left Unilever i got the opportunities to grow i have held several senior positions that I would not have had the opportunity to have had i stayed at unilever. when you get out of unilever you are recognised based on the knowledge you acquired while you were at unilever. the experience that one get at unilver is the experience that you carry for your life time most on the things that your come across later in life you always make reference to what you gained at Unilever. most companies are still behind when it comes to technology and latest trends on how to run a business. so if you from Unilever you tend to be ahead with the information and technology hence this makes you to be well recognised by other companies that are still behind. please note that this might the different for a different race group as it is noted that some race group tend to get promotions, better career growth opportunities more than other race group within unilver. Unilever has the so called a high performers who get preferences and the rest of the employees tend to occupy same position for years and one then tend to seek opportunities for growth outside. if i were to get the opportunity to work for unilever again i would take it but i would be prepared that i will be occupying the same position for years.

"A Beautiful Place to Work"

I worked for Unilever as a Consumer Assistant. I really appreciated their efforts to advance my skills through quality hands-on training. Since my work involved use of a company car, I went on an Advanced/Defensive Driving course, which changed and improved my driving till today.

"Work with global brands"

Working at Unilever, you get many opportunities working with global brands and being at the forefront of brand and product innovation. Some of the processes can become tedious which slows down momentum and team performances.

"mad house"

Basically, it became the hardest part of my career. I was mirrored by this constant pressure to outperform my own abilities and I was always reviewed as an under performer. I believe that surely a company of this magnitude would appreciate talent and make an attempt to nurture it by training or any other form. It may seem cliche'd and overly referred to but yes, racism does still haunt us and it is being manipulated in the attempt to oppress the innocence of an open mind, so as to keep us constantly feeling inferior. Lastly, nepotism - if there was anything more disheartening it would be the idea of being overlooked or even worse relieved of your duties just so as to accommodate someone else who has strong ties with your superior. I prayed for this kind of job and now unfortunately, I'm praying no one has to ever go through my experiences ever again.

"What to say"

Unilever is one of the top companies to work for. Sure, it takes long to go to the next level and yes, pressure is on all of us, some more than usual, but it is a top company. Unilever gave me new life and although I wanted to walk out, because the bosses don't always understand what an employee goes through it is still a job and it still pays my bills and then at the end of the day it's still worth it all.
Best companies to work for in the Consumer goods sector.
