"some recognision for hard work"
Added 15 Jan 2015 by a current employee
For five years I have worked as a call centre consultant. I have been passionate and gave my at most best to serve Vodacom customer to my best ability, however I was told there is no growth in that department as a result, I was working as a flexi. I felt there was no recognition of the effort we made as consultants regardless the time, dedication, commitment we made as a result, I didn't hesitate to jump out when they outsourced the call centres. You can't be a member of any union. Coming out of school, it's great exposure to a work environment. However, three years down the line you should consider other options otherwise you will be addicted to pain killers.

Vodacom has become an extremely difficult company to work effectively for, as it’s an environment of chaos and disorganisation. Not only is management lacking in leadership skills, but the various departments have no idea what the other departments are doing. The working environment is hugely stressful, overloaded, aggressive, frustrating and unproductive, and as a result, personal performance is generally low. There are huge incompetence’s within the management structure and staff falling under lower management are generally over-exploited to the point where they don’t know if they are coming or going. It's utter chaos. Performance is target driven in an environment where the target levels are so unrealistic to begin with, it’s virtually impossible to reach targets, resulting in very low annual increases and performance bonuses – even if you have outdone yourself. Recognition for outdoing yourself is unheard of. Although salaries and benefits are in line with the norm, overall – it’s not a working environment I would recommend to anyone, even if you are desperate for work, regardless of the salaries offered. Rather try to become self-employed and don’t fall into this corporate trap.

"vodacom not the way it used to be...."
Added 24 Nov 2013 by a current employee
When I started at Vodacom, people were fighting to get into this company - now people are fighting to get out of this company. There is no more respect, the people in management have no people skills nor any idea what it takes to run a network. everything is about targets and they do not care who they walk into the ground to get it. I had enough. I do my part and my part only! I refuse to be taken for a ride in this company or to be the fall guy. I am currently slapping my CV together - I cannot believe the amount of excellent people who have left in such a short period of time - I guess they saw this type of management style coming.... Can't wait to get out of here.

"Vodacom is the worst working environment ever."
Added 03 Sep 2013 by a current employee
If you are thinking of seeking employment within Vodacom - just beware! It’s a cut-throat, dry, cover your backside environment, where management don’t really care about staff whatsoever. It’s all about reaching targets no matter whom or what you walk over. The human factor does not exist any longer and work has now become a daily drudge, where you are totally overwhelmed with the unrealistic workload, and seen as a dispensable resource. Managers are appointed without the proper management or people skills, and basically become glorified dictators. I have been employed for a number of years in the company and I am currently in the process of finding more pleasant working options.

Although I am the most experienced and most qualified in our current team, I cannot advance my career at Vodacom. In some positions they have pulled earmarked people across from different areas. There seems to be no respect for qualifications (I am more qualified than my boss two levels higher than me). There are definitely groups within the company and if you don't kiss the right ass you're stuck. They have furthermore made all of us sign a three month restraint of trade with our contracts so it is tricky to take your specialised skills to the competition. This scenario almost feels like corporate bullying and this lead most of us to start exploring avenues in smaller companies.

"Reviews of my former employer"
Added 26 Jul 2013 by a current employee
I've worked at Vodacom. they are good to fund for studies, but you don't get anything, instead you become a threat to the management that you will take their positions, which is unfair. You study in a different field of what you're doing. When it comes to labour relations act, union is not allowed, if you are a member of union you will never leave peacefully. Human Resource does not promote equality, racism and positions are reserved for certain people without qualifications. Working environment is good, but when management is not good it's not working.

"Unfair Labour Practices"
Added 21 Jul 2013 by a current employee
Vodacom is a company one cannot recommend to a senior job seeker. Its management is not of great quality, politics is name of the game, there is great deal of race issues, staff management has deteriorated to personalities, HR approach promotes individualistic managing "praise your boss to survive" and in simple terms, it is an old boys club kind of environment. Some highly academic qualified staff are treated as threats.

"Vodacom Review"
Added 18 Jul 2013 by a current employee
It is a boy's club with great affirmative action, employment equity and career development in paper, but it is not practiced internally. Leading to frustrated employees who are worked out of the company due to this internal unspoken underhand dealings. There is a lot of skilled and underused employees.

"Not the best company to work for anymore"
Added 12 Jun 2013 by a current employee
Vodacom is integrating Vodafone business models and practices, but are losing sight of what has made them the giant that they are today, ie. the people. The personal touch has been lost, and more and more people are leaving Vodacom for greener pastures. There is a lot of talent being lost to the competition and current management style dictates rather than nurtures. Everyone is all about covering themselves and there is no harmony or synergy between departments.
