Duties & Responsibilities
1. Market Analysis & Research
Monitoring commodity markets (e.g., metals, energy, agriculture) and price trends.
Analyzing supply and demand dynamics affecting commodities.
Conducting research on geopolitical and economic factors influencing the market.
2. Trading & Investment Strategies
Assisting in the development of trading strategies for commodities.
Collaborating with traders and analysts to optimize investments.
Evaluating hedging opportunities to minimize risks.
3. Risk Management & Compliance
Assessing and mitigating risks associated with commodity trading.
Ensuring compliance with banking and financial regulations.
Coordinating with legal and regulatory teams to ensure adherence to policies.
4. Client & Stakeholder Engagement
Providing market insights and recommendations to clients.
Managing relationships with commodity suppliers, buyers, and traders.
Assisting corporate clients in managing commodity exposure.
Supplier relationship management, negotiations and communication.
Ensure that preferential procurement BBBEE targets are aligned to the Financial Sector Charter (FSC) as determined by the Department of Trade and Industry code of good practice.
5. Financial & Contract Management
Reviewing and negotiating commodity-related contracts.
Managing financing solutions for commodity trading (e.g., trade finance, letters of credit).
Assessing profitability and financial performance of commodity investments.

People Specification
Essential Qualifications - NQF Level
At least 3 years of experience
Skills & Experience
Procurement Experience (2-5+ years preferred)
Strong negotiation skills for supplier contracts and cost reductions
Market analysis expertise to monitor commodity trends and pricing
Supply chain management knowledge, including sourcing and vendor management
Data analysis skills (experience with ERP systems, SAP, or Excel)
Compliance knowledge (understanding of procurement laws and regulations)
Communication & teamwork skills to collaborate with internal teams and suppliers
