SUMMARY
One of the most prominent packaging companies in South Africa is seeking to employ a Group Safety Manager in their Boksburg branch. This seasoned individual will be in consultation with key management, to develop a risk management policy for the Group. Provide an effective, efficient, and comprehensive risk management framework to the Group and its business units. Develop and roll out risk management methodologies. Monitor emerging risks and drive the maturity of the Group’s risk management programs to support the Group’s strategic objectives linked to risk management. To ensure all identified risk actions and timeously recorded, tracked, and completed.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ensure the risk function is treated as central to and managed on an ongoing basis as an integral part of the business, providing functional guidance to the business.
Facilitate the development and maintenance of business unit and Company risk registers and ensure it is periodically updated and feedback is given to the Group Risk Committee.
In line with ISO 31000 guidelines and consultation with key management develop the Group Risk Policy,
Develop the Group Risk Framework that should consider Implementing strategic, operational and catastrophic risk management processes and proactively drive mitigating strategies to ensure business continuity (i.e. Risk reduction, continual improvement, cost savings and mitigating the impact of business interruption).
Ensure all standards are met and complied with in line with business, insurance, and legislative requirements.
Ensure all emerging legislation relevant to the Group is identified, analysed, and tracked on the relevant risk registers
Liaise with Insurers and Brokers regularly on issues relating to risk control.
Oversee and manage the SHEQ management systems.
Integrate risk plan with site-based safety officers
Develop a multi-year risk management capital investment strategy aligned with a risk plan
Bi-annual reporting to Group Audit and Risk Committee
Identify, quantify, prioritize, and drive the elimination or reduction of all operational threats and exposures to the business.
Analyse warehousing, supply chain and fleet management’s process flow and logistics, to identify potential hazards and treatment measures.
Ensure all internal risk audits are performed and all findings are attended to on time.
Manage all external audits relating to SHE, Fire, and Accreditations, etc.
Manage the relationship with key risk management service providers
Perform annual review of the performance of the key management service providers
Ensure the global risk landscape is considered on an ongoing basis and during annual executive management strategic reviews.
Incorporate functional guidance within the company and the risk management function.
Perform regular needs analysis and roll out training matrix in line with SHEQ, Fire and other operation risk needs.
Perform detailed analytical work and special investigations when or as needed
Arrange and coordinate quarterly, annual, and ad hoc risk management meetings on behalf of the Executive Risk Committee
Ensure meeting minutes are recorded and all findings are attended to on time.
Bi-annual reporting to the Executive Risk Committee
Agreed upon core risk management metrics
Risk management progress relative to the annual risk management plan
Emerging risks
Risk costs
Capital costs incurred to management mitigate risk
Review of risk service providers and performance
Any material risk breaches in the preceding period.
Immediate escalation to the Executive Risk Committee of any material risk instance
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Relevant B-degree, Honours degree in Risk Management, Operations, or related field.
Registration with IRMSA will be beneficial
Practical knowledge and implementation of risk management practises in line with ISO 31000
Risk management, SHEQ / OHS exposure is critical
Internal audit or process audit experience
Change Management, Project management/system implementation skills
Must have managed multiple sites
Exposure to the SA Insurance industry will be advantageous
Exposure to EXCO level – the ability to influence/guide EXCO decision-making
The role includes a requirement to travel to and engage with various sites
