Position: Kitchen Staff / Chef (Quick Service Restaurant Industry)

Location: Durban, KwaZulu-Natal (CBD)

Key Responsibilities:

• Grilling and preparing delicious meals, with a focus on chicken.
• Providing exceptional customer service with a friendly and bubbly demeanour.
• Maintaining cleanliness and hygiene in all food preparation areas.
• Assisting with food preparation, including washing, cleaning, peeling, cutting, and chopping ingredients.
• Organising and storing food supplies correctly.
• Assisting with unloading and storing delivered food supplies.
• Packing prepared meals into coolers and ensuring proper storage.
• Ensuring timely and efficient kitchen operations, without clock-watching.
• Setting up the kitchen with cooking utensils and equipment, like knives, pans, and food scales.
• Ability to study each recipe and gather all necessary ingredients.
• Cooking food in a timely manner.
• Properly clean and sanitise all food preparation areas according to established standards of hygiene.
• Wash and appropriately store all cooking appliances, instruments, utensils, cutting boards, and dishes.
• Assisting with the preparation of meals, which includes washing, cleaning, peeling, cutting, and chopping fruit, vegetables, poultry, and meat.
• Sweeping and mopping the kitchen floors as well as wiping down kitchen walls.
• Assisting with the unloading of delivered food supplies.
• Organising and correctly storing food supplies.
• Properly pack prepared meals into coolers and ice adequately.

Requirements:

• Minimum 2 years of experience in a kitchen or grilling role.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Ability to read recipes with comprehension.
• Proficient in English; clear communication is a must.
• Understanding of chicken preparation.
• Must own a cell phone (preferably Android).
• Ability to work night shifts.
• Team player with a positive attitude.
• Reliable and punctual.
• Substance-free and preferably non-smoking, adhering to food safety standards.
• Comfortable with authority and able to follow instructions.
• Resides in or near Durban CBD.
• Must demonstrate an undeniable flair for ‘treating food right’.
• Proven work experience as a Chef or cook.
• Must willing and able to train team members and must also be open to learning
• Advanced knowledge of Hospitality / culinary techniques.
• Excellent communication, customer, and interpersonal relations are a must.
• Ability to remain calm and undertake various tasks.
• Familiarity with sanitation regulations.
