Qualifications :

• Transport Management Diploma from a certified tertiary institution
• Minimum 8 years in the transport industry,
• 5 of which are in a Transport Manager position
Position overview :
The Transport Manager will be responsible for the day to day running of the Transport Department, ensuring a safe and reliable service. This responsibility will extend to developing strategies to ensure the efficient and cost-effective functioning of the department.

Preferred skills and experience :
• Excellent command of the English language, both spoken and written.
• Prior experience working in a transport office and managing a fleet of vehicles
• Experience in scheduling vehicles, vehicle maintenance, and employee management
• Strategic planning background in relation to the transport industry
• Strong budgeting skills
• Previous experience in working with a variety of GPS tracking, incident monitoring and cameras
• Computer literate
• Abnormal transport knowledge
• Knowledge of imports/exports and port procedures

Duties and Responsibilities :

• Day to day management of the transportation department
• Ensuring repairs and routine maintenance are carried out
• Ensure the fleet of vehicles and trailers are licenced and roadworthy
• Ensure the departmental facilities, assets, tools, and equipment are recorded, maintained, managed and compliant in every aspect.
• Ensure that the service schedules are as per manufacturer’s specifications
• Monitor diesel consumption
• Monitor vehicle performance
• Reduce the risk of vehicle overloading
• Authorise and manage vehicle repairs, fleet cards and maintenance
• Keep current with and maintain an awareness of the Transport Industry
• Maintain safety standards to ensure compliance with insurance regulations, and develop a program of preventative safety
• Follow Insurance claim procedures
• Monitor and maintain the vehicle tracking and camera system on the vehicles
• Plan and implement vehicle budgets
• Recruit and hire new permanent and temporary staff
• Manage, supervise and co-ordinate staff duties, activities and responsibilities including discipline in accordance with company policies.
• Conduct regular appraisals and identify professional development opportunities for staff.
• Maintain annual leave records for Transport Department personnel, and ensure leave forms are completed as required
• Manage incidents requiring employee discipline, in accordance with company procedures
• Identify training needs and continued driver development, such as advanced driver training and safety
• Managing, monitoring and developing a team of drivers
• Management of driver hours
• Ensure the department and personnel are compliant with BCEA and OHS
• Ensure that company polices are adhered to and
• SOP’s are continually updated, maintained and adhered to
• Conform to all SA Government laws and regulations
• Management of Traffic Offences
• Manage incidents requiring employee discipline, in accordance with company procedures
• Reconcile driver cell phone bills for payroll deduction on excess bills
• Maintaining and completing accurate records
• Ensure the relay of information to all stakeholders and team members is communicated timeously and, appropriately
• Prepare reports and presentations
• Other duties as may be assigned by the Directors
