Good Day, I am a graduate from FEDISA in Cape Town, South Africa and have previously studied a BArch degree at the University of the Free State but ceased my studies to follow a more design heavy curriculum. After ceasing my studies in 2015, I started work at Coco C Restaurant and Chocolatier whereafter I was soon given a position at Nuance De Rose Interior Design as a Trainee Interior Designer. My role there included: briefing clients, generating concepts, assisting clients, sourcing materials, generating cost, oversee construction and coordinate with general building contractors, site visits after completion to ensure client satisfaction and sales. Last year I worked with a startup, Casuarina Fashion Avenue, being in charge of their design, garment construction and pattern making departments. I did freelance CAD Design work for DAYKINI Swimwear and freelance work for Odette Gomes Couture as a Design Assistant. My experience and interest in Architecture, Interior Decor and Fashion Design gives me a different approach towards conceptualising and my way of thinking. FEDISA - My degree has developed my skills in the Adobe suit as well as allowing me to excel in pattern drafting, garment construction and conceptual design. Industry involvement - In the course of my degree I have completed multiple briefs collaborating with industry leaders in South Africa. Examples of this would be a capsule collection that was done with the Markham brand, a shoe design brief done in collaboration with Zoom shoes and a collaboration with the luxury handbag brand, Cape Cobra Leathercraft. As well as a internship at Odette Gomes Couture. Looking at strengths and weaknesses of mine a strength that I greatly believes represents me well is hardworking. I have a very strong work ethic and a need to be successful, this can be seen in my work at FEDISA and all the other previous places of academic learning I was enrolled at. I have always looked for validation from other people and I always make sure that I get it. A weakness related to the this strength would be that I am never content with myself or the product that I present. Thus I work really hard to present myself and my work in the best way possible. Another strength of mine that would be important is that I am a logistical quick thinker. I am able to think of solutions to problems, I face in my school, work and friend groups, quickly and rationally by analysing the situation. I am very helpful oriented in this aspect as I feel inclined to share what I know and understand with my peers who are struggling. A strength that I discovered in myself, during my studies, would be perseverance, after being affected by my medical condition and being admitted two times to the hospital, in my graduate year, I still managed to produce a collection that was shown at the Graduate fashion show. Knowing I achieved my goals at the end and was able to graduate as one of the top students in my class. Each of these strengths and weaknesses have positive and negative effects on my career.
