While still in high school, I did computer repairs to earn some pocket money. This already started to teach me to appreciate the value of money earned as well as gave me some experience in dealing with clients. Working with frustrated, angry or frantic clients because their office PC crashed very quickly teaches you to know how to calm or focus people. After school I started my career at the bottom, as a delivery driver and general worker at a fencing company, earning minimum wage and working long hours. Later in my career I learned that this was an excellent way to start a career although I didn’t see it at the time, I learned the essential skill to manage my money and plan ahead. Since then I have worked in various industries including IT, metrology, engineering, agricultural parts and equipment, auto mechanical and heavy goods transportation. By doing these jobs I have learned a lot, and not just from a managerial perspective but also what it takes to actually get the job done. To tell someone to improve their sales or to get more work done in a day is much easier if you personally know what is a realistic target. I have been in situations where the workload far exceeded the time allocated, if you wanted the work to be performed correctly. After 10 years of various jobs and positions I started as a Technical Manager and deputy to the Quality Manager. I was ready for a senior level position as I knew what was required to keep everything running smoothly. This was not just a desk position as I was still actively working in the field with my people. From there I took a position as Storeman for a while to slow down after some health issues and then moved to a Quality Manager position when the opportunity presented itself, enjoying the planning and challenges to keep a company compliant to both in-house and national standards as well as managing my team.. After 2 years I moved to a Metrologist post as it fitted my current family and living conditions better as it was a job where I worked from my home office creating my own hours and schedule. With 10 years of work experience, mostly in South Africa but also a little in the USA, Mozambique and Namibia, in various fields and almost another 10 years experience in as Technical/Quality Manager I feel confident I will be a great asset to your company.
