To Whom it may Concern May name is Angus Flowers and I have 18+ years of experience within the media industry, and have held many positions ranging from Journalist to Sub-editor, through to Media Liaison Officer, Communications Officer through to Spokesperson. I currently hold the position of Science Communications Officer at the South African Radio Astronomy Observatory (SARAO). I have been employed with the organisation since January 2015. I have a wide-ranging portfolio, which has equipped me to work in various spheres of the communications spectrum. This includes general media liaison work, the setting up and staging of events, writing and editing, as well as the hosting of communities, members of Parliament, Ministers and members of the Diplomatic Corp, through to the hosting of press conferences and media events. I have experience in Cross-functional and inter-organisational events, as displayed with my involvement with the launch of the Ghana Telescope. During my time at SARAO, I have been tasked with the creating a database of imagery, video stock, 3D imaging and VR stock, which I have successfully implemented and which is ongoing. These images and visuals have been used on various broadcast and publication platforms throughout the world. Along with this I also dealt with the conceptualisation and creation of especially the promotional video material of the organisation. I have also developed strong inter-personal and networking skills during my time within the organisation. I am a journalist by trade, having cut my teeth within the broadcasting field, where I fulfilled the rolls of radio journalist and newsreader. From there I moved into print, then veered off into the world of public relations and media liaison before returning to the world of journalism, and more specifically publications. Here I helped write and edit for publications such as Sawubona (SAA’s onboard magazine) and government magazine, Public Sector Manager. I am a hard-working individual, who is very comfortable working on my own or within a team. I am dedicated to my job, and always strive to give my very best. I do not hesitate putting in the extra hours when needed, or if called upon to do so.
