I’m the Sustainability Manager at Kropz Elandsfontein Phosphate mine (Consultant Agreement), responsible for Health, Safety, Environment and Community matters. Previously I was Senior Manager (Group Environment, Safety Systems & Sustainability Reporting) at Lonmin since 2007 to 2019. My 27 years’ progressive experience across mining, chemical, power generation and minerals’ processing industries has enabled me to become a resourceful leader. My strength in networking helped me to build sustainable relationships (i.e., Private, public sectors). Whilst in charge of group functions, I was able to provide support to operations with development and implementation of strategies, various policies, standards, and guidelines to ensure alignment through the management systems (ISO 14001/ISO 9001/ISO45001). Examples of some of my involvement include, but not limited: - Compilation of the Kropz Elandsfontein Social and Labour Relation Plan to DMRE - Ensuring compliance to all legal aspects (health, safety, environment, and community) - Development of Group Environment Strategy and Contractor Safety Management (CSM) Protocol - Part of the construction and commissioning of Elandsfontein mine and plant - Project Manager for the DuPont Safety Leadership development program. - Setting of corporate targets (KPI’s) and operational alignment, management of annual Sustainability Report (GRI) - ESG reporting and customer liaison on all HSEC matters - Involved in key due diligence processes and report monthly and quarterly to EXCO and the Board. - Stakeholder engagement through various forums (Communities, NGO’s, Authorities, etc.) as well as various SLP and CSI projects (i.e., waste swop shop, ECO club, Infrastructure upgrades, etc.) - Environmental management oversight (water, waste, land, biodiversity, and air quality) and audit compliance as well as ensuring relevant reporting (i.e., CDP Carbon and Water, annual closure costing, etc.) - Establishment of HSE requirements for first incubator for small businesses’ with Shanduka Black Umbrellas. - Development and implementation of a water demand management and water conservation (WCDM) plan and integrated water and wastewater management plans across the operations - Managed application for blasting certificate - Representative on various International and local forums/associations (i.e., ICMM, IPA, Minerals Council) - Steering committee member for a mining and faith led initiative through the Archbishop of Cape Town -the Day of Courageous Conversations I am a strong team leader with the ability to motivate and encourage others to achieve personal and organizational goals. I have a strong strategic as well as operational focus with excellent people and resource management skills. I enjoy working with my team to develop new ideas and improve existing processes.
