I was born and grew up in Durban in a township called Umlazi. I am a person who enjoys re3ading books which is a habit I picked up in primary school when I read a book from the Goosebumps series and I ended up reading the entire series after that I never turned my back on reading books. I also a road runner, last year I ran my first marathon in Pretoria where I qualified for the comrades and two oceans’s marathon. But the part of me that got you considering me as a possible employee is that in 2006 I enrolled for national diploma in chemical engineering at Mangosuthu University of Technology and I completed my theoretical part of my diploma in 2009. In August of 2010 I started my in-service training and completed it in August 2011 and then I was able to graduate in May 2012. I did what was supposed to be my in-service training at FFS refiners which is a small refinery in Durban (Jacobs) but since FFS Refiners had limited resources when I joined them I had to fill in the process controller position just after 3 weeks of joining the company. My role required me to be a fast learner and also be good at multi-tasking as I had to co-ordinate my work with 2 colleagues working at 2 different sections of the entire plant. At FFS refiners’ safety the most important objective and therefore I had to have safety precaution imprinted into my brain for all tasks that had to be executed. In 2012 I joint National Bioproduct Institute (NBI) which is a pharmaceutical company in Durban where I held a process technician position. Since NBI was a pharmaceutical company that meant that safety was even more important as compared to FFS refiners’ . At NBI I had to look at safety from 2 different perspectives; firstly safety in the perspective of avoiding causing harm to my colleagues and /or myself then I had to look at safety from the perspective of producing a final product that was safe for ingestion by patients in hospitals. The final product at NBI had to be exactly the same every time hence it must be produced exactly the same way every time. This meant that I had to pay attention to the finest detailed in following standard operating procedure (SOP)in performing all my duties. At NBI I worked in a team of 3 which consisted of 2 women and myself and this taught me tolerance and patience which are virtues which are important when working in a team. I deliberately mention gender in the NBI team because at FFS Refiners’ I worked in a team only 1 gender hence I have the benefit of knowing how to blend into diverse teams. In 2014 I resigned from my position at NBI to pursue my engineering degree in metallurgy and materials at WITS, now I have completed my degree and I graduated in March http://www.******.*** I am applying for this position hoping to get the opportunity to take the next step into building my career.
