I was the Head of the CCMA Free State for 22 years, managing 2 (two) offices, all commissioners, oversight on all cases as well as the registry division of this region. My position was Convening Senior Commissioner reporting to the Director of the CCMA as well as the Governing Body. Employed to set up policies and procedures across all spectrums of the business, design contracts of employment, put systems and reporting structures into place (design organograms for all sites, companies and countries), deal with discipline within the company and third party dispute resolution bodies in SA, Lesotho and Namibia, head of Employment Equity committee, to ensure compliance with the Health and Safety laws across the three countries, design and develop training initiatives and deliver training, drive recruitment, set up initiatives for sites. Payroll and all HR Administrators across all countries reporting to myself. To advise employees on HR related matters. Liaise with client. Advise Directors on Employee issues, HR and Labour Law related matters. I served in this position for 2.5 years but most unfortunately, this company did not survive the COVID pandemic and all staff were retrenched in December 2020. I have a sound legal understanding, have managed and implemented strategic and operational plans, have reported into the highest echelon of the CCMA as well as at BMI, have written presentations and delivered presentations to government, business and labour, I’ve trained unions and business on labour law (CCMA Trainer), I’ve managed the budget in line with the region’s strategic plan, have a good knowledge and experience in administrative support and the various reporting structures in this regard, I have excellent writing skills and vetted all awards and rulings issued by commissioners. As a commissioner of the CCMA, I was extensively trained in problem solving and, analysis of evidence and argument. As Head of the CCMA FS, I underwent various training initiatives on leadership and public financial management. I implemented and had to report on compliance with legislation, CCMA policies, SOPs and various Commissioner Practice Notes, Codes of Conduct etc, as a priority. As the CCMA is an impartial body, information sharing was of utmost importance and I was expected to set up ongoing stakeholder meetings and functions to address important information, changes in law, how best to use the CCMA and user forums.
