When telling someone you have over 18 year experience in an industry, automatically makes you sound old. Yet when I switch on my playlist and start my day, I always feel as if it is for the first time; fresh and new but with a super power to do everything faster, and better than the time before. Working in the built environment was something I woke up one day wanting to do, when I found out that being a geologist meant sleeping in the bush, in a tent. A “calling” of some sorts if you like. Honestly though, walking into the Cape Tech Interior Design department – as it was known then back then – changed my life. After graduating my Btech Interior Design , with Honors, I joined a small interior design and project management firm. Here I was given the freedom to be myself and learn on the job. And boy did I learn! Everything from taking the client brief, designing the space from top to bottom, engaging with the clients brand and ethos, to sweeping the floor at midnight before opening and finally reconciling the final cent on the budget was in my repertoire. After 15 years, multiple spaces nationally and internationally, over 100 budgets, and clients later, I had the privilege of working for a further 3 years with a fellow colleague, and learning new ways to improve the way I do things. Now I have branched out on my own, starting 510 Design and have successfully worked both hands on and remotely since 2019. I am no stranger to collaborating and working in a free lance capacity. I am able to fit into a team seamlessly whether they are architects, ad agency creatives or brand custodians. I have had the privilege of working with several different creative teams during my working career. I love what I do. I love my team of contractors and suppliers, but most of all I love my clients, who allow me into their world and trust me with their investment into their space.
