My journey into the industry of social development started with my first passion, and it was on the sports field. For most of my formative development sport has always played a big role, so it was only fitting that sports science would be the direction my studies would take. I started my sports science degree with a second major in business management at the University of the Western Cape and later into my undergrad studies I developed the passion for working in innovative spaces and on projects that could bring about change. My post-grad studies introduced me to a new sphere of interest by showing me how to use the knowledge I have acquired to help empower others. Throughout my years of tertiary education, l have truly learnt to understand the concept of how hard work pays off and you reap what you sow. I was fortunate enough to work in professional sports for a couple of years and had the opportunity to build good networks and recalibrate my definitions for development. I then decided to further my studies by which produced a thesis based on how sports as a tool can be used to foster social change. During this process, I also lectured sociology and business management at a private college and was then approached to fulfill the academic manager role overseeing all academic programs at the college. Not being completely satisfied with all I was doing at the time, I set up a “development agency” that focused on growing relationships and creating synergy between private business, non-profit organisations, and government organisations to achieve mutually beneficial objectives by creating projects with similar development agendas. The trajectory of my professional career is based on a quest to sincerely satisfy my soul. I’m passionate about innovative thinking for problem-solving and I believe in working smart and sincerely to create more efficient, inspired and result-based outcomes.
