Since I was 17, all I wanted to do was become an Actuary. It’s mathematical, technical, analytical, (insert other adjectives here), and difficult. The challenge inspired me and I wanted to be put to the test. I passed the degree test, and the rest of the technical subjects’ test. However, when I got to the more theoretical subjects, it wasn’t for me. I want to DO and CREATE, not APPROVE. Data Science was recommended to me by multiple people and I was intrigued. I enjoy being challenged, breaking down problems, figuring out solutions - how can I get to the solution? Is there a better way (adept at googling and have a love for learning)? Can I explain what I’m creating (the extra maths teacher within me)? While my skillset doesn’t include building 3D things, it does include DOING and CREATING, which isn’t limited to 3D. The satisfaction of creating something that others find useful - be it an Excel spreadsheet, using VBA in Excel, or programming a model in Python - is the reward.
