I am a junior occupational therapist. I've just completed my community service at Umzimkhulu psychiatric hospital, where I was the only qualified occupational therapist. As a result of this, I have developed insights into development of therapeutic treatment programme, conducting individual and group treatment sessions, developing standard operating procedures for the department as well as working in conjunction with the multidisciplinary team to provide holistic rehabilitation for the mental health care users. Furthermore, I also planned and organized internal events for the mental health care users. In addition, as I was a part of internal committees, I participated in the 2019 National core standard audits and assisted in auditing other departments within the hospital. I am aware that my experience may be limited, however, I can assure you that if given the opportunity, I will utilize my skills to provide the best possible health care to the clients and will strive to continuously improve myself as a health professional.
