I see myself as improving the quality of life of my patients, many of whom have had a full life and need understanding and respect when they are in pain or during the last chapters of their lives. I have been described as calm, thoughtful and respectful (re Mrs Maria Graca Nobrega Chaplin- FB search, who said she would take me "back in a heartbeat"). I am self-aware - of my patience and tolerance, when it is important to be firm (such as when preparing dosages from a variety of medicines), how to earn trust of patients, and when I need to request assistance in difficult situations. I know hospital routines, how to take care of home-based patients, and how to communicate in support of patients with their family members and friends. As a young mother I know how to take care of young children. During home-based care, besides the medical and physical care of patients, I prepare food, do the washing and laundry and help with shopping. I feel I am well-rounded and am happy to refer to successful past assignments.
