I had worked at Telkom for the past 27 years, until May 2023, when I took a Voluntary Severance Package or faced forced retrenchment. I initially worked as a consultant customer facing, and assisted customers with anything from guiding them in their choice of products to processing new orders, billing, queries and resolving complaints. I love dealing with people and assisting/uplifting them. This love of people compelled me to remain in my role at store manager: owned and operated stores for the past 22 years. I coached my team in respect of meeting and exceeding their pre-set targets. I am proud that I helped my non performers to meet their minimum targets. I supported and encouraged my higher flyers to remain humble yet still maintain their exceptional performance. I loved assisting customers with their escalations and resolution thereof. I maintained a conductive working environment, by making it a fun and happy place to be. I had an Open Door Policy (notwithstanding that I had no door/office) where the team was encouraged to address anything with me - this built good rapport and teamwork.
