I retired 4 years ago (2015) from Transnet at age 63 where I have been working for 41 years since I completed my degree as electrical engineer (1974), most of it in the field of railway signalling with exposure to engineering, project management and maintenance management. The first 2 years after I retired (2016&2017) I obtained contract work to provide professional, specialist advisory services to Eskom for the monitoring of the signalling construction work on the Majuba Rail Project. The 3rd year after I retired (2018) I entered a 1 year contract with the main signalling contractor for the Majuba Rail Project where I was primarily responsible for the review and amendment of signalling design drawings; factory acceptance testing of the Microlok II electronic interlocking; and site acceptance testing to verify functionality of the train traffic control system. For the past year (2018) I have been unemployed and came to realize that I need something more valuable to keep myself busy and at the same time supplement my inadequate pension income.
