“Your profession is not what brings home your paycheck. Your profession is what you were put on Earth to do with such passion and such intensity that it becomes a spiritual calling.” (Vincent van Gogh) Working as a junior project manager on a construction site enabled me to understand the materialisation of a structure from conception to completion. I have completed my BSc (Hons) in Construction Management at the University of the Witwatersrand and currently pursuing a BCom in Financial Management through UNISA, in order to gauge a better understanding of the financial aspects of construction projects. I am particularly interested in how investments can be used as catalysts to create sustainable outcomes in challenging environments. My future study plans include pursuing a Master’s degree in Development Finance and becoming an accredited professional with the South African Council for the Project and Construction Management Professionals (SACPCMP). As an assistant project manager, I excelled at working within a team, writing reports and facilitating co-ordination for multi-disciplinary projects, which enabled me to develop my communication and leadership skills. Involvement in the socio-economic aspect of a large-scaled construction project exposed me to the various facets of teamwork and the necessity of cohesion to deliver a successful project within the given constraints. My objective entails working alongside a professional and experienced team in order to enhance my skills and propel me towards becoming a versatile individual. These opportunities, experiences and tools will empower me to seek and conquer greater challenges and ultimately, make a difference.
