Qualifying with an MSc in Materials Science (1987) at University of Cape Town, I have worked in a number of different industries. Initially this work was based on my field of study. I worked for Nampak in their Corrosion Laboratory, Metal Box (UK based) in Singapore and subsequently for TransHex Mining. In 2000 I changed direction and began working with data. Working for Spatial Technologies, I gained invaluable experience in the world of data and spatial data. I stayed within the Spatial Technologies group and migrated to Lightstone Properties and more latterly Lightstone Explore. The basis of Lightstone Explore’s work is data. This data is solicited from many different sources as well as in-house desktop research. I built data bases, mined data, researched data and analyzed data. During 2019 I did a UCT Get Smarter course “Data Analysis” which investigates various aspects of the data environment. I find data fascinating and enjoy the attention to detail aspect of data.
