I am a chemist specialised in separation and purification technologies and solvent extraction processes for elemental/compound beneficiation. I also consult in supercritical fluid extraction and various other processes/technologies e.g. polymers, adhesives (including PSA’s), sealants etc. I have had the privilege of doing in depth research and development on Tantalum/Niobium and Zirconium/Hafnium solvent extraction systems, the latter to generate nuclear grade (< 100ppm Hf) zircaloy for fuel rod cladding. Organic/bio chemistry also interest me, particularly the medical applications of botanical drug substances e.g. terpenes, flavinoids, psychotropics, cannabinoids etc. The scope and focus of pharmaceutical and medical industries are shifting away from symptom-based treatments towards the enhancement of health via supplementation. Consequently, opportunities created by rapid growth in such industries have expanded the focus of my consultation work towards the application of solvent extraction processes to produce medical grade cannabinoid extracts (CBD, CBG, CBN, THC, THCV etc.). However, I will always yearn for the conquest of research and the practical applications of exotic materials in new and emerging technologies/applications. Knowing that the limitations of such compounds are underpinned by evermore stringent purity standards, the importance of experience and innovation is crucial in the development of ecologically sound and economically viable processes and products.
