I started working for the City of Cape Town in May 2002, initially as a Receptionist in the Department of Housing then as a Secretary in May 2007, in the Violence Prevention Through Urban Upgrading Programme (VPUU) assisting the manager in all administrative as well as logistical functions. I got promoted to an Administrative Officer in April 2012 when the unit became the Mayoral Urban Regeneration Programme (MURP). I project managed and assisted the staff in numerous projects within our unit and included been responsible for all the finances, human resources, training, insurance, procurement, supply chain management, assisting with Social Development projects, Construction projects, audit of the facility account as well as project management the audit of our German Consulting Firm which is in partnership through our English programme within the City of Cape Town. As the programme grew the unit became the Mayoral Urban Regeneration Programme (MURP), using the VPUU methodology for the projects in the City. I believe with the experience that has been afforded to me whilst working for this programme, I have been given the platform to hone my skills and thrive under pressure both individually and within a team environment. I’m currently doing my third year in ND: Management at the CPUT City Campus. In addition, I also attended various short courses whilst I was employed at the City of Cape Town.
