I studied mechanical engineering at vaal university of technology, my first taste of a working environment was as a volunteer in barberton mines i acquired a lot of skills and knowledge about mechanical and electrical components used in the mines, some of those components are slurry pumps, gear boxes, valves, motors, heat exchangers etc. i also learned to monitor the performance of these components using a system called SCANA. From mining industry i joined a steel manufacturing company as an intern where i learned about project management skills, team management and interpreting mechanical drawing. these were my responsibilities under the inservice training programme -Attend daily process focus meetings (on Monday). The main focus is to run production on the least less scrap and waste as possible. In these meetings, I and the team were expected to: • Review production targets according to the weekly build plan • Check the score board (number of completed parts in accordance to the daily/weekly target) • Record the amount of downtime per shift in each area of production, reasons for downtime and the amount of scrap made and reasons for scrap made (could be maintenance or technical issues/production related-where I was expected to step in and play my role) • Identify any critical issues to be dealt with and prioritize (especially those that interfere with production) • Solve the problems encountered (by team) I am currently working as a Temp Mechanical Process Technician at Coca Cola Beverange south africa My duties here are: • Responsible for predictive , preventive & corrective maintenance on the conveyors • Responsible for weekly routine lubrication schedules on the conveyors and production line equipment • Overhauling & assembling of bottle filling valves , bottle lifting cylinders & pneumatic cylinders to replace seals • Worked on machines such as Blowmoulder, Filler, Labeller, Shrinkwrapper, StretchWrapper, Palletiser • Overhauling Mandrels • Overhauling Vacuum drums and do Calibrations • Installing of new drive chains and new slat chains on conveyors • Involved in planning of the weekly maintenance meetings • Operating the Machines On shifts i am responsible for the following: • Review PIMS and POMS • Fix any breakdowns and address any potential failure • Verify that machines are running at a rated speed • Lunch relief • Complete Artisan handover book • Face to face handover • Complete 5 whys • Assist with changeover • Change parts to be cleaned, serviced and neatly stored • Oversee the start-up of the entire line and assist if there is any issue • Plant walk downs and inspections • Use of SAP
