While my career initially started in publishing, I gradually moved into analysis and then financial management. Two years ago I co-founded a company educating SMEs in financial and business management principles. Freelance work implies a tremendous amount of accuracy, accountability and adherence to stringent requirements. Two stories from my recent work history suggest I should fit right in: 1) A couple of months after I had left a national retailer, a store manager phoned me to thank me for guidance the preceding year. Because I had taken the time to identify and explain possible improvements, her staff was able to meet the performance requirements determined by head office and received incentive bonuses. 2) After the German holding company of a South African publisher raised concerns about its financial system, I spent months educating myself on cloud accounting apps, best practice and process flows. Not only did I effect changes finally approved by the holding company, I also implemented similar procedures at other SMEs over the past two years.
