Mauriece Cloete was born on April 16, 1999, in Cape Town, South Africa, in the Cape Flats district's southern suburbs. Raised by a single mother who worked tirelessly in a factory from nine to five, financial hardships were a constant struggle, and they never had a house of their own. Growing up in a tough environment, Mauriece found himself caught up in gangsterism but managed to escape its grip before any permanent ties were formed. A tattoo would mark his affiliation, but no gang attachment remains to his name. His life took a drastic turn when he met Andre Mark Galant, better known as Hoppie. Hoppie introduced him to the entertainment industry, offering a pathway away from the streets. Through this connection, Mauriece became involved with the organization Doodvenootskap. Although the organization was undergoing a revamp at the time, he observed its operations for two to three years before actively participating. His first big break came when he was introduced to Jenna Bass, a renowned movie director and scriptwriter. In 2016, he landed a role doing voice-overs for an internationally recognized South African film directed by Jenna Bass. The following year, he was featured as an actor in the music video "Save Me" by Doodvenootskap artist Temple Di Sacrifice. This experience opened his eyes to the broader scope of the music industry, sparking his interest in film production. Eager to expand his knowledge, Mauriece ventured into filmmaking, teaching himself the craft while seeking guidance from professionals. By 2020, he joined FFS (FreeFilmSchool), where he studied filmmaking theory and practical programs every Saturday. This experience deepened his understanding of the industry, from scriptwriting to production. Seeing himself as an emerging filmmaker and editor, Mauriece connected with like-minded individuals and co-founded an independent production company named Von Sicara in 2021. Although not officially registered at the time, Von Sicara grew into a promising enterprise. Between 2022 and 2024, the company worked with multiple artists, handling vocal recording, engineering, filming, and editing. Some notable artists include Temple Di Sacrifice, Goebels Die Rot, King Burger, Plaasnaar, Pengi & 21promo, Psynapses and many more. The year 2024 was a milestone for Mauriece, as he participated in the 48-Hour Film Project through FFS, where he worked as a Camera Assistant. This opportunity gave him hands-on experience on a professional production set, further refining his skills. Later that year, FFS executive-produced a student-led project as a year-end initiative, challenging him to apply everything he had learned throughout the year. Now in 2025, Von Sicara is in its most advanced stage of development, with funding opportunities on the horizon. As Mauriece continues to grow in the film and music industries, he remains committed to learning, evolving, and pushing the boundaries of his craft. His journey from the streets of Cape Flats to the entertainment industry serves as a testament to resilience, determination, and the power of mentorship.
