Good Day I’m Richter Labuschagne, currently SHEQ Manager at Basil Read Civils. I started to work at ISCOR Vanderbijlpark in 1976 as a learner technician Metallurgist. During my training I've studied all the different processes in the iron and steel manufacturing environment. I did not complete the studies and start working in laboratories doing quality control. To further my studies I became a locomotive operator. During this period I completed T1 metallurgy (after hours) but could not do T2 and T3 because there were no evening classes. I was promoted to line training officer for rail transport. I started to study B Comm. Industrial and Personal Phycology at PU for CHE (after hours) I became a planner, getting quotes for hiring of plant and equipment. I’ve also calculated materials needed for the furnaces and ordered them. In 1990 I started to work in the safety department as an analyst. I did SAMTRAC and other safety courses. I acted as Head of SAFETY and Manager Occupational Health and safety. I became senior analyst and was later transferred to Iscor Pretoria Head Office. When I left Iscor (retrenched) I start working for NOSA as a consultant writing safety systems for different companies. In 2004 I start working in the construction environment as a safety officer for Karena Africa sliding company, in Mozambique. I moved to Murray and Roberts as a safety officer and after a few months I became the Divisional Safety Manager Civils for Murray and Roberts (July 2006) In 2016 I moved to Basil Read as their Divisional SHEQ Manager Civils. During my time in the construction environment I obtain experience in different projects. I am a good communicator and can work with all levels of management and workers. I’m a good listener and understand the SHEQ environment. I’m disciplined and upheld discipline. I’m a team player.
