Dear Sir or Madam; Please accept this letter and the accompanying resume as an expression of my interest in your organization. I am a young, disciplined and dedicated civil engineer with necessary knowledge that comes with civil engineering sciences, engineering change management, environmental management, project management, design, team work and maintenance management. I worked as an engineer in training at Eskom Matla power station but due to shortage of staff in the Auxiliary department I was given the system engineers’ work and responsibility since my fourth month on duty. In the plant I was responsible for the maintenance of civil engineering assets which entailed conducting inspections on the civil infrastructures; if there were alarming findings I would prepare scope of work to source specialist to conduct further investigation so that I can attend other aspects of the business. From the assessment findings I would follow-up by developing technical repair scope of work based on recommendations addressed in the inspection report submitted by consultants. I also reviewed and accepted designs submitted by contractors for work to be done on site. During outage projects; In order to reach deadlines, professionalism and proper planning was crucial, one of the skills I acquired at ESKOM. I was responsible for attending squad check meetings, requesting budget quote from various suppliers for estimating project costs, developing tender technical evaluation criteria and documentation for engineering projects. I was also required to liaise with contractors on everyday basis to ensure that the work they are doing aligns with the technical scope, engineering drawings, standards, schedule and budget scope. I also assisted safety officers and contract workers in conducting safety risk assessment for all the envisioned tasks in a project. Although I come from a technical background I have been able to adapt to the Eskom environment which is mostly management; that has subsequently convinced me that I can do well in unfamiliar environments given support and good leadership.
